in front of your own TV cam.
like... HDTV cam is under $2000

but any cam at all is all you need. get your friends to look at your favorite pieces, don't do 100 songs, do 3 or 4. one acapella.

always practice in front of camera, and always look at the tape. there is always one thing that can be better.

buy SONY VEGAS software, home edition, its 89 bucks or so.

choose a brand name, never use any other name.

make short pieces of what looks and sounds good to you.

post to youtube, etc. call venues, just tell them how to find the posts. ask for permission to email links as you make new stuff..

buy a newspaper every day, and write a song about something in it. A song per day. You really will get good at song writing. And your songs will strike chords of resonant environment, because the words of your song will be events they have experienced already by seeing the same news. in a word, you become TOPICAL.

sing your songs into the video network you now own (er... the internet makes everyone a network., just as $1000 video recorders revolutionized communication in the 70's)

make DVD's and mail them to everyone you respect.

love the people that help you

help the people that love you

then learn to love your haters.

At an audition.

Auditions for singers are held in many places. You can find these times, places and requirements posted on the bulliten boards of music stores, in local musicians newspapers (often called "rags"), ans in the publications of theaters, theater groups and theatrical production companies.

Personally, I turned a friend of mine on to a local community theater production of Jesus Christ Superstar. After his audition, this former grill cook snagged the lead role as Jesus and performed three sold-out nights for over 10,000 people. He was amazing.

Be prepared and good luck
