The Cliff Floyd-as-a-Cub rumors were created because he said the Cubs are at the top of his list of teams to play for. The Cubs would like him, because he provides a left-handed bat to a team that is currently all right-handed except for Jacque Jones. The problem is: the Cubs are set in the outfield with Murton, Soriano, Jones. Angel Pagan and newly-signed Daryl Ward will sit on the bench but will see time there too. So unless the Cubs can make a deal for Murton or Jones, Floyd won't be a starter, which of course is a preference for his. Another problem is that Floyd has been long on talent, but short on health. Two years ago, he had a phenominal year when he was fully healthy. Last year, he sucked. He's recently coming off an ankle injury which raises the question of how strong will he be this year. Course, that'd typically make him a shoe-in to be a cub, we love our injured players. So the Floyd and the Cubs need to reach a low-base salary, high in incentive contract that would make Floyd a benchwarmer, which I can't imagine him really liking. And for one final reason, Felix Pie is the Cubs #1 prospect, a 21 y/o left-handed CF. The Cubs don't want to sign another outfielder to a longterm contract (remember they have Soriano for 8 years, Jones for 2 more years, and I don't know Murton's contract) to block Pie's progression to the Major level.

The fact that you, as a Cubbie fan, think that Cliff Floyd is worth the money and effort it would take to obtain him speaks volumes about why the Cubs are going to be in a world of trouble for years to come. Yinz guys can do better that Floyd...I mean, didn't it nauseate you having to look up at the Pirates in the standings last year?

I'm not sure because this should be a no-brainer for the Cubs front office.Take a guy who hasn't played a full season in a few years due to injury(just like Wood and Prior),was a good, but not great talent, throw a big contract at him and tell your fans that he is one of the key pieces in getting a championship. And when that doesn't happen, blame all the day games as the reason for not winning. The Cubs need pitching, not part-time outfielders.

Health. Just Health.
Floyd wants to be a Cub.
The Cubs want a strong bench and a good left-handed hitter.
Floyd isn't going to play enough to block Murton's progress.
It's probably just a matter of making sure he's healthy, putting together an incentive based contract, and maybe finding a new home for Jacque Jones. (who is extremely undervalued)

You can go to www.baseballfever.com and get more input on whether or not Cliff Floyd will become a Cub. It is said that Montreal is also interested in Floyd. money will probably determine the outcome.

Well let's see.....in Chicago there is:
1. A big goat
2. BARTON
3. A 100 year drought
4. A BETTER TEAM IN THEIR OWN CITY!!! (GO SOX)
5. Someone is his position already (Soriano if he plays left)
6. A GM in the hospital...little tougher to make a deal that way
In the end...the Nationals will get him cause they absolutely need someone to fill the Soriano gap and the Cubs are too busy overpaying sucky pitchers.

Ummm...they are the CUBS!!?? Who would want to go their. Don't even try to pull off that Soriano stuff. He was offered the biggest contract by them. And Marquis? All I have to say is he needs to lay off the crack pipe. WHy do you think that Pierre left? They are the CUBS! Enough said!

He said he wants to play in Chicago so maybe the White Sox have been talking to him about playing with them. He just wants to be close to home.

Floyd sucks....he's never healthy, and when he is, it's either out of the park or in the catcher's mitt for strike three...i think Montreal would be a great place for his "talent"
