Ninja turtles, animaniacs, Looney tunes, original batman and superman cartoons- unbeatable... the quality of animation is also down- ever since this Japanimation fad started w/ Pokemon became popular- they dont move at all, and other than that cartoons today just blow

Yeah, but only some.

Take looney tunes cartoons for example,
All the older ones have a lot more detail on the art to them, and the newer ones all seem a little rushed.

The old Pink Panther Cartoon was miles better compared to todays effort, whats with him talking???

And speaking of talking, why do Tom and Jerry talk now???

So, to answer your question, YES on the most part old Cartoons are definitely better than the new ones.

First, let's differentiate between children's cartoons and adult themed cartoons. The Simpsons, And anything on Adult Swim is not geared toward children. Now that that is settled, the old cartoon far out weight the new ones. In the 80's when I was growing up, there was a bevvy of cartoons, from comedic cartoons to action toons there was variety and quality. Cartoons such as Transformers, G.I. Joe, Transor Z, Gem, He-Man, She-Ra, and the list goes on, were far more intellectually stimulating than the cartoons that (unlike in the 80's) you can find on the two to three channels that actually show cartoons.

As a side note I feel that the lack of entertainment quality is also why we are raising a generation of unimaginative, desensitized, lazy, underachieving, overweight, video game zombies. ..."and that's one to grow on!" "...and knowing is half the battle!"

It's like comparing apples and pears quite frankly. Most cartoons are drawn for the world and generation they are created in, which is my the naive humour of some of the older ones seems very twee now (I still cringe when older cartoons relate to a happy person as gay and my kids look at me and snigger). Quite honeslty I don't think you'll ever beat Tom & Jerry as they seem timeless, saying that tho, Spongebob is utterly fantastic :)

I do.

I miss Ren and Stimpy, and Rocko's Modern Life.

Something's gone wrong with the cartoons of today.

The only cartoons that are okay are Spongebob and Fairly OddParents.

But I would much rather have the old ones back.

Well, a large part of this is nostalgia for when we were young & the world seemed a less complicated place due to our innocence. But there are also differences in approach & technique which contribute to content & stylistic differences.

I like all the classic cartoons. Bugs Bunny, Gummi Bears & Talespin are my favorites. There's nothing like them.
