Have you ever been sexually harassed at work? What happened? What did you do about it? Do you still work at that job?

Yes, twice.

The first time my boss made me wear a very tight smock that the buttons pulled on the chest. (I am large chested) Every shift he made excuses to bring me into the cooler or freezer and show me how to do something that involved him putting his arms around me. I quit there after 2 weeks. A year later I was called by the police and questioned on things. I almost had to testify in a court case. The slime ball had raped a 15 year old girl and had threatened a single mom I worked with to have sex with him or he would fire her or not give her a reference. (small town) He was convicted and sentenced to a long time in jail.

The next time the guy harassed about 20 of us at work. He woud not only slap us on the bum or grab our breasts, but he would follow us home. In one lady's case he took the bus across the city with her to see where she lived. (got off the bus at her stop etc) The company had hired him knowing he had a restraining order against him by another female employee. He started e-mailing me (did an internet search) and asking me out. I kept track of everything he did and presented the documents to our HR dept, who did NOTHING. It went on for another couple of months with more complaints from other girls. I finally took my evidence (I had made copies) and went to the President of the company. I told him to look into it and told him that the stuff I was giving him had been given to his own HR dept 2 months before and nothing had happened. I told him if he found all of the evidence believable and that his own HR dept had done nothing, then I was going to contact the Ministry of Labour and Human Rights and file a complaint against the company. 20 mins later I saw him meet with HR. 45 mins later a police cruiser came and escorted the harasser out. 1 day later I was fired and escorted out myself...they changed my sales stats and said I was underperforming. (I had won Employee of the month the month before)

yes I had a boss who would always harassed the women there and one day he pinch me on the fanny and i told his boss .. you guess it everybody saw what he did and then no one saw it.. i ended up quitting... now joking around is fine and we do that at the place i work at and the jokes are on a sexual nature,, but we all know where joking.. what made the first job harassment was him placing his hands on me.. and the fact that we never joked around on any level and most of the time you can tell if someone is just joking with you..but you need to get to know the person first ... so as not to take any chances .. there are a lot of people out there who like to stir up the pot and cause trouble even though they know the other person is just kidding...but then again that is a work place and not a place to joke..so that is why i say you need to get to know the person first .. be friends

Under a strict interpretation of the law, probably, yeah. But, as a guy, I personally think mild flirtation with the opposite gender is fine. I mean, come on! Is it a crime for a man to tell a woman, "You look very nice today?" I don't think it is, but some plaintiff's attorney would probably be able to convince a jury that it is. Does anybody else think the pendulum has swung too far the other way? Some of the things Clarence Thomas did and said to Anita Hill were clearly inappropriate. But in typically legalistic overreaction, now we want everybody to walk around like genderless clones. How sad. To treat people with genuine respect and basic friendliness would solve a lot of this. In my opinion, it is only when somebody has some OTHER Axe to grind in the workplace and decides to "use this" as a way at getting back at a boss or organization, that we begin to have problems.

Yes, I have. My boss made comments about me that were inappropriate. I am well-educated and I took a part time job at a jewelry store for extra money. As I just started working there, I had a few questions about the job, to which he would say things like, "Why do all the pretty ones have to be so f'ing dumb?" before explaining something to me. (And these were reasonable questions that the average person would not know)

So...I spent 3 days there with him telling me I was just a "dumb little girl" trying to "play grown-up in a man's world" and telling me to "learn to let [my body] make the sale".

I realized I didn't need the money that badly, and so I slipped a letter of resignation under the store's door early the next morning, trying never to have to think about him again.

What an asshole. Unfortunately, I'm new to town and it is a very small town ... so I decided it'd be best for me to go away quietly. It worked out, too, because now I work for one of the best companies in town with a nice, reputable owner... and for a lot more money!
