He doesn't negotiate with his enemies...which begs the question; if you don't negotiate with your enemies, who do you negotiate with? It seems as though President Bush would rather they bow down to all of his conditions BEFORE having talks with them.

Iran and Syria.... why?
I would not comment on anything. The best way for you to do is to read and study the history of the entire Middle East, and the roles the old colonial powers (Great Britain, France, Germany in competition with one another) and superpowers (U.S vs. Russia) played in their history (the exploitation, double-dealing, intervention, etc.) for strategic purposes (he who controls the oil has the strategic advantage). The facts might not look pleasant to you. The current mistrust and hostility shown by these countries didn't simply came up from nothing. They had been accumulated and built up by countless events through many decades. What we are seeing now are just the sum total of the effects resulting from those events. Simply looking at the different Middle East crises say, from 2000 up to 2006 isn't simply enough. You have to look way way beyond in the past to have an understanding of the "why's" of today's events.
.... And never mix-up history. Iran had never had anything to do with the kidnapping and killing of Israeli athletes in the Olympics. Those who did it are a faction of Palestinian (Black September Movement) which eventually became a part of Al-Fatah (Yaser Arafat's military wing) of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).
.... Iranians are of course involved in the taking of American hostages during Iran's Islamic Revolution (Iran Hostage Crisis in 1979).

Ahhh yes Iran and Syria, the two most comforting and helpful voice in the Middle-East. But seriously, Bush and the American people need to recognize that something has to be done quickly to eventually get out of Iraq. Why not talk to these two nations? Because they have helped fuel the kind of insurgency and unstableness we see in Iraq today. Why would the US talk with Iran who has directly been behind Coalition forces dying in the war? They have supported an insurgent leader by the name of Abu Mustafa al-Sheibani. This is a man that has led numerous attacks against Coalition forces and has directly been responsible for the deaths of 7 British soldiers in 2005.
There is also the case of Moqtada al-Sadr. He is the Shiite cleric that has been very opposed to the US occupation of Iraq and led uprisings against the Coalition and caused major sectarian violence in Iraq...and has been doing it since the war began. You guessed it--Iran supports him and has given him $80 million since the war began for him to incite this type of violence. The Middle-East Intelligence Bulletin states that in no way would Sadr be as powerful as he is now w/o Iran's support.
There is also the case of Iranian Security Officers found in a Baghdad bank in 2003 planning attacks against Coalition forces.
There is also the fact that Iran backs Hezbollah to the tune of $40 million a month. No, no no--not a year. A MONTH. We know Hezbollah has been behind attacks against our ally Israel and against US interests in Lebanon in 1983 (see barracks and embassy bombing of that year).
And there's the Israel will be wiped off the map comment by the Iranian government every change they get. And the support for other anti-American groups, banning of US products in Iran--did you know Pepsi stands for Every Penny Supports Israel? That’s what Iranians hear from their government.
Listen things are bad in Iraq and Iran isn't heartbroken that Saddam is gone (no doubt about that)--but we have to solve the problems w/o the help of these two nations. There is too much bad blood between these nations and too much evidence that supports Iran fueling the deteriorating condition in Iraq. Hopefully we can make progress without getting in bed with the devil (something we have done too much in the past, already).

shall we see now, Syria is the terrific chum of Iran. Iran desires to kill human beings or convert all of them to Muslim. i ask your self why the president won't refer to them? You choose for capturing the president and notice how a strategies you get. i would not care if he's Dem. or Rep. you will not get very a strategies. you shop your Muslim hatred to your self. no longer involved.

I almost kinda agree with Bush on this point. Iran and Syria can`t be trusted and even if we could trust them asking them for help * especially at this point of the war* would be like admitting defeat and make us look weak. They`re only going to do things to benefit themselves anyway . Besides they would only help for a price,,,,what would that price be if anything less than selling our souls to them. You need to remember IRAN as well HATES America, how could you trust someone that wants to see you dead.

I don't know about Syria, but who in their right mind would want to talk to the president of Iran? He is a total nut-job.
