A ghost is usually a labeled as a person who was once living and has passed on. A ghost remains "earthbound" do to not being able to cross over for different reasons. Some believe that it is because they have unfinished business, others believe that it is because the person's life was taken suddenly and they may not be aware they have died, or the person is afraid to cross over due to being "judged" and some believe that some children remain earthbound to fulfill their biological life.
A spirit is a person who has passed on and has crossed over. They can come back to "visit" but do not remain "earthbound".
The bottom line really is that no one really knows what a ghost is because no one has ever proved that ghosts exist. There are theories but that is it. The paranormal is not an exact Science so no one can really answer your question with facts just speculations as to what a ghost is.

Ok, there are two things.
A) A ghost is a soul still trapped on Earth, kept here by binds to people, places, things. They are in a state of constant torment, which is why some people believe ghosts are evil.
B)A ghost is a soul that has moved on, but had not gone to or yet. Supposedly, then, they would be in 'Limbo' the fourth plane of existence. My theory is that souls in Limbo that still have strong ties to Material things can influence things from Limbo.
What I mean is, like Limbo is a secondary universe, almost.
So, there would be a limbo earth. And I think that things on Limbo earth might be capable of altering our Material Earth, in small ways. Appearing as faint images, mostly, or speaking to us in our dreams.

Ghost = persons sprirt that remains after death. Usually you will find ghosts in places where that the actual person loved and they died a horrible death (not all but a majority). They also come in many forms from dust to an exact replica. Exact replicas are kind of freaky but....I never seen one in real life (except on those cool ghost shows on TV)

I believe a ghost is a deceased person who hasn't completed their final task, or said goodbye to their family. Poltergeists are somewhat like ghosts, but they tend to be a bit more mischeiveous. They tend to send messages to the living, like levitating possessions and writing using different things like blood on walls or computers even. Most ghosts don't know they are dead, like people who die in their sleep. They stay behind to haunt and scare, and whatnot. Glad I could help.
