how do you make the squared sign on the computer? you know, the little two?

In word, there's a button like that for bold that has an X with the exponent 2. it gives you super scripting, which is what you're looking for. in places like this that you cannot use that function, simply use the ^ figure ( [shift] + [6] ) before whatever you wich to be in superscript and people will understand. ex. 10^2 = ten to the second power

I'll assume you have Windows XP. Get in MY COMPUTER
or use the language bar and select United States
International for your keyboard. Then if you
hold down the right ALT key and hit 2, you
will get the small exponent 2, e.g. x².

Easy way: Change your font to superscript.

Or: Some fonts have built-in character combinations that will produce little superscript numerals.
