In a mathematical expression typed on here, it usually means "to the power of". The problem is that it isn't easy to type superscripts on here, so most of us have to use certain notation to represent what we actually mean.
x^2 would mean "x squared",
sqrt(x) would mean "square root of x"
pi would obviously mean the symbol
and so forth. Although it is possible to make the desired symbol on here, it takes more effort than necessary.

In the computer programming language BASIC (Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instructions Code), the carat ("^") is used to do exponents. 2^4 means 2 to the fourth power, or 2*2*2*2=16. The first number is called the base, and the second number is called the exponent.

Expressions in arithmetic are like nouns in language. They describe numeric values. Equations and inequalities in arithmetic are like fact in language. They state the kinfolk between 2 values. there is not any suitable or incorrect concept of an expression, by using fact it particularly is barely a numeric fee. while, an equation or an inequalities is the two actual or fake, indicating if the reported dating between 2 values or expressions is valid or no longer. E.g. 5=5 is actual, 4>5 is fake, etc.

In addition to the ones already listed about exponents and statistics, if the carat (^) is over a letter, such as m, it can also mean a unit vector in the direction of m.
