Do you think it is fair to ask a tobacco company to pay for your bad habit? This article is asking for yearly CT scans to check for cancer. They tend to be about $500 procedures. I think that if a smoker is able to buy cigarettes everyday than they should pay for their own exams. Tobacco companies offer a product and it is the customers decision to use it or not. I think that the courts should dismiss these stupid law suits. It is a reminder that so many people today cannot accept their own consequences for their actions. Very sad. What do you think?

I think that when someone starts smoking, they know the risks. Tobacco companies don't hide the risks from their customers, they are required to print Surgeon General's warnings on their products. The Truth ads are also very widespread and visible, running on TV and in magazines. I feel that if a person starts smoking, they accept the risks and don't have a case if they get sick.

Even though it has been fairly well established that the tobacco companies lied about the connection between smoking and cancer, it's like it has been any big secret. It is a legal product and people need to take responsibility for their own conduct.

20 years ago we still knew about the dangers of smoking. The surgeon general's warning has been on packs for well over twenty years and the dangers of smoking were documented in the 1950's and 1960's. Everyone knew back then that smoking was dangerous. If you willing participate in a dangerous activity, you should be responsible for any potetial consequences.

No one in America wants to accept responsibility for their own actions. It isn't impossible to Quit, just difficult. However, if I can quit so can anyone who wants to. I only wish both sides would tell the truth for a change and take some responsibility for their actions. Remember, more people died in Ted Kennedy's car than all the second hand smoke victims so far

Read the article carefully!
The lawsuit is on behalf of people who smoked "smoked a pack or more a day for 20 years"!
20 YEARS -- that was back when Phillip Morris LIED about potential of lung cancer, and tricked people into thinking smoking is safe.
The lawsuit DOES NOT apply to people who start smoking NOW, when risks are known.
Why should not Phillip Morris pay for cat scans of people they TRICKED into smoking?

I'm tired of law suits. People are suing for the most insane things and the most horrible thing about that is that judges are actually allowing these asinine cases into their court rooms!

I agree with you. I'm a smoker but I surely wont sue them if i ever get cancer. It's not their fault for making the product, It's mine for choosing to smoke it.
