Is there a web that has books to read there on the site.? If the type is large enough, I could read that way. I am having withdrawals from not reading a good novel. Its making me sad and grouchy. I thought either Yahoo or Google was going to start scanning books.

It isnt my vision. Its my neck, I must be in a reclining position most of the time. My head back. I can not hold a book up for more than a few minutes. Messes up the plot line. Thank you for the help. I should have clarified my problem.

Google does have some scanned books: http://books.google.com is the URL I believe. However, if a book is still copyrighted, there are going to be some pages missing--this is how they manage to comply with copyright rules.

Also try:

Also, you can HEAR books here: http://librivox.org/

Anyway, you might find that some of the text is too small, but there are ways to combat this:

1. If it's text file (ends in .txt), hit the ctrl button PLUS the A button at the same time on your keyboard. This will highlight everything--right click and select copy. Then open a your word processor (usually word or notepad), and paste the whole text. Then you can highlight it again and change the font size as you like.

2. If it's a html or php page, go to click "view" at the top of your explorer window, select "text size" and simply change the size of your text--you can change this back once you're done!

Well, there is a site called 'literaturepage.com' which has the most well-known books in America. (i.e. some from Edgar Allen Poe, Mark Twain, etc.) That's the site I read Dracula from.

If you like fiction, you might be lucky and find a couple of good stories written by other people at sites where there are fan-fictions (fictional stories based on a fan's favorite show/book/etc.) I've found a couple at 'mediaminer.org'

Heh, I understand your feelings. Once my parents grounded me from reading...I was bored every minute of the month. Heheh, I used to always have a book with me where ever I went.

I hope that helps, and sorry I couldn't list a couple more sites, but I usually just buy my books. Reading online makes my eyes hurt.

(You can always make font online bigger by pressing 'ctrl' and '+' or ctrl and the scroll on a mouse if your's has one)

There are large print novels. Read one in high school for a group project. All the others in my group checked out the 'normal' size texted ones.
And you can change the font size on you computer screen. I you use the Mozilla Firefox browser (might work with IE - never tried it) and have a rolly thing on your mouse, press control and move the rolly thing. There is a way to do it through either the control panel or the menus on your browser, but I never used them and don't remember how.

Why have you had to stop? I have students who are visually impaired and there are large print books available. There is also something called a loupe that you put over the print and it enlarges it, a few lines at a time. Try the library for the large print books.

I, too, am super busy lately and cannot seem to fit leisure reading into my schedule. My solution: get audio books from the library! The library will have lots of books in both CD and cassette form. Enjoy!

SOME BOOKS ARE PRINTED IN LARGE PRINT... AND THERE ARE MANY ON TAPE. YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU OUT TO GET THE LOAN OF BOOKS, OR PERHAPS THERE IS A LOCAL GROUP (LIONS CLUBS HELP THE VISUALLY IMPARED) THAT CAN HELP OUT. (I'M ASSUMING THAT YOU'RE IN THE USA.)
