i think that it depends on the reason. if they are large and need to be moved for their own safety and will fight you then they need to be sedated. if someone is doing surgery while they are tranquilized and not numb than yes that is cruelty

Animals who pose a threat need to be tranquilized so that they don't harm people. I'd rather they be tranquilized temporarily, as long as they're handled gently once they've been tranquilized, than run the risk of having one break free and harm someone and have to be put down as a result. In my book, that makes it a sometimes-necessary evil.

absolutely not! my dog literally experiences panic attacks when it thunders out, when someone strange is in the house, if i'm outside and she can't see me, etc. if the dosage is correct, the dog will not necessarily become immobilized. i think it would be best to describe her personality, while tranquilized as serene and calmer; exhibitiing less anxiety, fear, and tremor.

i never like it when i hear about tranquilizing wild animals. they usually do it to put something thru the animals ear lobe. and it's usually just a tag, that's animal cruelty in my book!

No. They require medical attetion, etc. and it is much less traumatic if they are sleepy than if they are wide awake, afraid and fighting.
It is way more humane to tranquilize than not.

it's cruel not to tranquilize them. i was a vet tech for over 5 years...if they are properly anesthetized, they don't feel a thing...just like you in surgery. believe me when i say, they are really out during surgeries.

It is not considered cruel if it is medically necessary for the animal.
