My grandmother died before I graduated from college--many years before I graduated. Before getting my diploma, my mother gave me a ruby-diamond gold brooch that my grandma used to wear on her coat. It was as if my grandma was walking with me that day. The first and best gift you can give her is to be present for the big day--watch her get her diploma, if you possibly can. Second, sit down with her before the big event and give her a piece of precious jewelry that has been with you-- an brooch, a watch, a ring, or a necklace. Third, explain the significance of the piece to her and tell her how extremely proud you are of her--this day and always. Then, a little card with $50.00 or so would be nice. (something to blow on the after grad celebration). (This will make you both a sentimental traditionalist and hip, as well!
Next to my wedding day, graduation was the second most important day of my life. Having something of my grandma's made it even more ideal. I hope this helps you.
If you have tons of grandchildren, maybe go a little less precious??

Depends on what her plans are, and what your budget is, but some good ideas are at this site.

If she is moving to her own place Consider some household items...it shocked me how much I didn't have when I moved out on my own.
