Plextor drive isnt reading...?

My Plextor 740a DVD ROM Recorder isnt reading recordable media.. Why isnt it?

If it's a DVD-ROM it cannot burn DVDs, only a DVD burner can. ROM stands for Read Only Memory, therefore that drive can only read and cannot write.
