Go to www.samsonrope.com. They have instructions for all multi plait lines. Easier for you to look at it, than to explain it.

much easier to not bother splicing but to make a half hitch and then put on two or three seizings. they can be made to look quite neat. I'm assuming you want an eye splice.
for a rope lengthening splice I would go for show and first tie a diamond carrick bend, then finish off with three seizings each side of the knot. use strands teased from the original rope for looks.

You have to get enough people involved for one hand on each strand and keep them from getting tangled.
