The Christmas Song

I'm no longer really fond of traditional Xmas songs, having worked way too long in offices where people insisted on playing Xmas tapes all day from Thanksgiving on, and it seriously messed with my concentration. If Andy Williams is still alive and I ever run into him, I may deck the man, and not with boughs of holly, LOL. Mel Torme singing his 'The Xmas Song' is still tolerable, but that's only because I like his singing and have a lot of his stuff.

My favorite Xmas song made me laugh for days when I first heard it. I don't remember the band, but it's in the Ramones/ Dead Kennedys tradition. It's a cacaphony of music with the lead singer yelling: 'F*** Xmas!!!' over and over and over again. Actually better and more interesting than it sounds, but I think that it's appeal is somewhat limited to jaded and perverse minds, my own included.

I'd probably say Carol of the Bells. I think it's really cool how they can take something as fun as a Christmas song and make it so dark. I'm not pessimistic or anything, but it's a cool song to listen to.

Darlene Love's "Christmas Baby Please Come Home".
She sings it on Letterman Show every year at Christmastime. It's David's favorite too. They make a big production out of it. It's terrific. Just the best!
