i have met some people from mexico who are offended by the term mexican. i am confused. i am from america, therefore, american. if i was from germany i would be german. can someone tell my why this is offensive?

yes i am sure they were from mexico. i mean, unless they lied about it which would be even more strange.

Agree with the person above me.

I'm Colombian. Do you want to know the number of times I've been asked if I am Mexican, Brazilian, Puerto Rican...

Half the people in the US (that I've met) dont even know where Colombia is.

Are you sure they are from Mexico? and not like let's say Central America? Cause that would be like calling a Japanise guy chinese. They get pissed about that. If someone is from Panama and you call them Mexican, they get pissed.

well if theyre not from mexico in the first place, then i can see why they would get mad. im puerto rican n i hate when people call me mexican

I see no reason for that to be offensive. The only thing i would consider offensive is for example if you called them "Brazilian" when they were actually "Mexican"

Its offensive if you call any other latin person a mexican.. and they are not ...
