This is a silly old wives tale. Ask your OB and he/she will tell you this does not work. For ALL babies, their heart rate slowly decreases as the preganncy progresses, and most babies have a heart rate 150 to 175 when the heart rate is first detectable.
There is no physiological reason a male fetus would have a higher or lower heart rate than a female fetus.
The only way to tell your baby's gender is by CVS testing, amniocentesis, or by visual inspection of the ultrasound (most reliable at 18 weeks or later).

That's not very accurate. First of all, most babies heartrates don't even become a normal rythm until at least 20 weeks and even then, it can vary. I have had all of mine vary by as much as 30 bpm.
My son's heartrate was 150-160 most of the time...and the little girl I am carrying now is usually around 150 but has been as high as 160 and as low as 140.
Wait until the 20 week ultrasound to be sure.
Good luck and Congrats!!

That is not true at all. I have 3 boys and a girl on the way and her heartrate has been the same as theirs. Its an old wives tale. My daughters heartrate was 137....the boys were around the same sometimes even being 150 or more.

You can usually hear the heart beat by around 6 weeks...but that is a complete myth! My daughter's heart rate the WHOLE pregnancy never got above 131, and well she is a healthy little girl! My sister's son had a steady heart rate around 150 the whole time. This time my babies heart rate is 155 and I don't know what I am having, but my doctor thinks a boy (we have a bet going lol). Any heart rate has a 50/50 chance of being right, so obviously it was for some people, but it's NOTHING to depend on.

That is not true, because my baby's heartrate is high and he is a boy. I think the only way to tell by the ultrasound, sorry to say.

It's just an old wives tale. My mother in law's children were all gendered by the heart rate and all 3 times the doctors were wrong. If you want to know the sex you'll want to have an ultrasound around 20 weeks.

LOL, I heard under 140 was a boy, and over 140 was a girl.
My daughter was always over 140, my son was always about 130, and my twin girls hung out around 120. As far as I know, it starts about 4 months, and you just track it from there. But for me, neither theory held true!!!

You cannot tell what you are having by the heartbeat! The farther along you get the slower the heart rate is.
