my nephew has a new mini and twice oil light has come on and shuddering but plenty of oil in engine. Could there be a problem with engine management systems on this new model?

Like someone else already said, take it to a dealer. Especially if it's brand new and still under warranty. Make them fix it. Well good luck, I hope your nephew's car gets fixed right.

Could be the oil pump... Definitely take it to the dealership and have it checked out.

My advice is to quit asking and take it to the dealer for warranty work. Let them diagnose the problem and fix it.
