So I emailed my "employer" with "Mr. Doe," but in his reply, he signed it John. Should I still keep calling him Mr. Doe? (Still email, btw, have yet to see him after the interview) (Introduced himself as John in the interview.)

What should I do?

Normally, I would address him as Mr. Doe, but if he is signing his name as just "John" and not "John Doe" then I think you would be safe either way. You can use his first name and still sound professional in your correspondance.

And an FYI - employers are going to hire someone that they like -not necessarily the most qualified person. (they want the best package deal - not just a smart candidate who has no personality!) Once you get past the initial formalities, I think its okay to be SLIGHTLY more relaxed. . . which could in some circumstances mean calling him by his first name (if thats how HE Is most comfortable).

But, you should do whatever you are comfortable with. . .Good luck with it all!

If it is someone you dont know call him Mr.
He would not sign his name Mr. Doe., but by his first and last name.

In correspondence, its always most appropriate to address your employer with 'Mr. Doe' - with their family name only.
In person, as per north American culture, you may call by their first name 'John'.

Stay with Mr. Doe until you are told otherwise. Better safe than sorry
