I have fought with acne (including scares) all of my life and have fought to find a good foundation. The best - which I absolutely love - is Studio Finish Matte Foundation.

Here is what I pulled from the MAC web-site:

Lightweight foundation which supplies moderate coverage with a natural, matte appearance. A water-based formula designed to set to a beautiful, matte, long-lasting finish, it is a mixture of water, emulsifiers and emollients that suspends the pigments for delivery to the skin. Easy to apply and blend, it is non-acnegenic, has an SPF of 8 and is dermatologist tested. This foundation contains a derivative of Vitamin E, several emollients to make the skin feel comfortable, and Silica to help adsorb oils and maintain a matte finish. The pigment payoff is consistent under a variety of lighting conditions. There will be no colour shifts or overexposure surprises as a result of using this foundation.

All the other suggestions are probably very sound in the sense that they work, but why not avoid using products which have ingredients tested on animals or derived from animal products?

My wife has found a brilliant cover-up in a sort of pen form from Beauty Without Cruelty, available from http://www.animalaid.org.uk. It works really well in adition to their foundation.

Take the cruelty out of beauty and not only will you look better, you'll feel a whole lot better too.

I've been using a mineral makeup called Bare Minerals, it is very good and it doesn't break you out. You can look it up on the web. I recommend it to anyone with skin blemishes or scars. It's not heavy or runny. Try it I think you'd like it too.

mousse would not be good because it is meant for people w/ smooth complexions. if u have acne skin, your complexion is not smooth. mousse is also thick and creamy and doesn't mesh well with most faces. i think u should try bare minerals. its like a powder, but not really. its a light mineral veil and very sheer that will go on nicely and give excellent coverage. great for acne-prone skin. all it is is minerals. pure and natural. no chemicals or additives in it that will distrupt the skin even more. the mousse i'm sure has a lot of additives, chemicals, etc.

The cheapest and most effective combination I have found it rimmell 'hide the blemish' and max factor pan stick.

Clinique does a 'quick corrector' which is very good indeed.

Both methods work well on spots and dark eye circles.

Try Estee Lauder Double Wear.

It covers blemishes really well and lasts a long time too.

Revlon Colourstay is the best but can be a little drying in the winter. The Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish is very good as well and not drying at all.

Hi, I quite like clinique foundation. I also use I.D Bare Escentuals. It's really good. I use the foundation and the concealer. Bit pricey but very good!
