I am going to Manila for one year. Any tips?
Where should go? What places I should visit? Where should I eat and drink?
What places I should stay away from? etc….

It really boils down to what you fancy. Shopping, eating out, relaxing at a resort, visiting museums, etc. Manila has its fair share of everything, so you should have plenty of time to do everything.

Check out this link, this should give you an idea of places of interest in Manila - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manila#Places_of_interest

If you prefer hanging out in sandy beaches and just relaxing, you will have to venture outside Manila. Try the numerous beaches in Palawan. Boracay isn't so bad, but it is getting a bit crowded for my own liking.

I must warn you that Manila is extremely hot and humid all year round. To stay cool, try visiting Baguio for a week or two.

You should try to get outside of Manila. Manila is very crowded and dirty. Try Baguio or General Santos City. Don't drink any water that isn't bottled, this includes ice. All the food is good as long as you stay away from the really really rural areas.

advice: get a job, or a second job, save all the money you can for the next year until your trip to Manila. Wages are 10 times greater in the US, so work now, play later. For an american college age dude in the philippines, you will be surrounded by millions of the sweetest babes you can imagine, all of them dreaming about a decent american guy to take them out on a nice date. as for the city itself: imagine the filthiest, noisy, crowded, polluted, worst possible ghetto in the US; most Manila is worse. forget the places. you can find a few OK nightclub spots in Greenbelt, the Fort and Eastwood. the beach at Puerto Galera is OK, it is not far, go as often as you can. tip #1: don't mislead filipina ladies. either casually date them or court them. don't confuse this in your mind or thiers. tip #2: come back home with a filipina wife. choose carefully. you have the opportunity to marry a great filipina girl, and live happily ever after.. don't blow it.

What area will you be living in? Metro Manila is huge so a lot depends on what is nearby. There are a billion restaurants and tons of great clubs and bars. What are your interests? Where are you moving here from? What is your age group? Are you single looking to meet people or looking for nice places to go with your spouse? Are you looking for budget or luxury? Are you looking to hang with mostly locals or mostly other expats?

By the way, if you are female be sure to bring tampons if needed as they sell them in VERY few stores and when you can find them they are in packs of eight.

everything in manila is nice except for the traffic and the mean bus drivers. almost all malls in manila are great.normally we go to ortigas since it has everything you need-it's a one stop shop.you can go to robinson's galleria first then SM megamall then shangrila or whatever way you want to.tiangge's can be found at st francis square at the back of megamall or in greenhills,it's just a ride away from it.
go0d resto's and bars can be found there too, or if not, you can go to metrowalk, it's just a walk away from robinson's(located at the back of ortigas)

for more bars and restaurants, i recommend libis or eastwood.

goodluck and have fun.

If you go to Philippines with an open heart, accepting the way it is, you will not find any trouble in getting from one place to the others. Filipinos are very kind and accomdating people especially for the ones who appreciate them. A little smile and kindness will go a long way. MABUHAY

Whoa! Too much questions! Just visit www.wowphilippines.com for all the answers to your questions. Surely, there are lots of things to do and lots of places to visit. It all depends on what you want and how much money you have.

If you wan't to go shopping and you don't have enough money, go to Divisoria. But if you do have lots, go to Greenbelt.

At the end of the day, whether you have money or you don't have any money, whatever you chose to do or wherever you choose to go, the Filipinos will always give you a big smile and a warmth hospitality.

here's an important tip: don't use your cellphone when your outside, especially on the streets.
you should go to Greenhills for shopping. Also, go to Mall of Asia, it's the biggest mall in Asia, so wear a good walking shoes.
