My 14 year old niece has been advertising herself for sex online at various swingers' sites. She has posted pics of herself topless and another pic of herself masturbating. She lives abroad, so it's hard for me to help her. I found out about her online activity through some shrewd detective work. It old her mom but her mom has not done anything about it. What would make a 14 year old get caught up in stuff like this? I believe she has actually met some grown men for sex. I can understand a 14 year old wanting to experiment with teenage boys, but advertising herself to 30 year old men seems way OTT. What might cause this behavior and how can I help? I'm wondering if she has been molested and that's why she has become so over-sexed. She also drinks a lot of alcohol and binge eats (she is very overweight).

If her mother won't do anything about it, call the police and report the site. Child porn is illegal. So is an adult having sex with a 14 year old girl. These behaviors are beyond the normal teenage experimenting and self-expression behaviors. There could be many causes of it. Sexual abuse victims do often display these type of behaviors but that doesn't necessarily mean that's what happened to her, although if she is having sex with 30 year old men, whether it's voluntary or not, that is sexual abuse. Your niece needs professional help and if her mom isn't taking any steps to get her help then call children services and they can work with the family to make sure your niece is safe and gets the help she needs.

Oh God I have been were you are, more or less exactly. My niece is now 18 but I still worry about her. I've tried approaching my sister, completely pointless, she just ignores it completely. She has remarried a much younger man (he's about 26 now) I think my ex brother in law abused my niece but I have no idea what action I can take to help her. I think all we can do as aunties is to make sure they know we are here for them if they need us.

Sorry I can't help, but seriously I can empathise.

that is sooo horrible. maybe there is a problem at school or something. There are kids at my school like that and they have no social lives and that is why they do it. Maybe you should get her into some after school activities ar suggest some family outings with the entire family. Just do anything to get her away from the computer and/or away from the idea that 14 year old girls having sex with 30 year old men is just wrong. Just don't be mean. Remember, you are not her mother and getting too involved may ruin your relationship with her.

Once on the net, always on the net and pretty much anybody who gets hold of the pictures somehow can "reproduce" the thing at will. I don't know what a lawyer could do about this, especially if you were somehow agreeable to the pictures being taken in the first place. I don't know: were you asleep, was it a hidden camera...still, not much to be done I don't think. So either you forgive or you make sort sort of big splash

First of all your niece needs to understand that she can get arrested for this on the internet. Second of all, you need to put a password on the computer that you only know of. Third of all, block all sites with certain words in regards to what she is doing. Fourth of all, take her somewhere and show her the harsh world and the consequences that come with what she is doing. Explain to her parent(s) of what she is doing and show them so they see it for themselves. But ask why they feel of nothing doing anything about it in regards to what their own daughter is doing at the age that she is. She thinks that there is no harm in what she is doing, but there is because she could get pregnant, or get a disease that will end her life. Call a support line and ask for help if nothing works. Report the websites and have them shut down and report them to the cops.

Perhaps she has been abused somehow, and is seeking attention from other people. That would explain her alchohol and food abuse. Also, she could have been slowly drawn into this, or is doing this for money or other gifts that people give her in exchange for this. Most likely she has been molested. Over the summer there was a show on Opera about a young boy who was drawn into the porn world with his webcam he originally got for communicating with friends, and then he got flown places to be molested, and started doing drugs, and got many things online from his molesters. And yet he still continued. What you could try and do is pretend to be someone looking for sex, perhaps next time you visit her, and then arrange to meet her (while pretending to be an older man), and then confront her on her behaviors and perhaps get her help. good luck.

I have to ask, is it possible she is a victim of incest and or rape and is acting out her aggression of what happened to her in this manner? That is something that should be explored before you or anyone disrespects her in the way others have chosen to do online here in Yahoo. If she confides to you she was a victim get her the help she needs and deserves and put the perv in prison who made her like that. Also are men responding to her ads and if so they could be prosecuted for crimes against a child even if they fail to act on those responses. It is a crime to suggest sexual acts or lure kids on the net even if they are the ones who start the conversation but it sounds to me like she very possibly was a victim of sorts and that avenue needs to be explored in detail. Talk to a child psycologist or Guidance Counselor at school who can refer you to the right kind of help.

You must find a way to take away her computer. Talk to her mother. Doesn't it bother her that her daughter is acting that way? It's not right. The girl needs to get involved with an activity to keep her busy. Maybe she's just bored.

well what can be done is to keep telling her mother about this situation, to seek help for help. if she does not do so, you have to call some sort of authority into this (child services, police) due to its bad parenting as well as the child is goind through underage activities. as the aunt, there's really not much you can do for your not really her parent, but you can act as a caring relative by calling some sort of services and let them help her.
it might be psychological issues (rape, peer-pressure, experimentation, etc), but we cannot know and we need to help her. we cannot let it lead to greater issues (drugs, more rape, arrested, death).
best way to help her inner cries is by getting help.
you and your niece will be in my prayers
