You are both

You are real because people can touch you

you exist because people can see you and know you

In spite of many people saying that it is a dumb question, please continue trying to find out the answer.
Many people would not give a second thought to this question and dismiss it. But the question is a very precious one. Such a question is a sign of intelligence. Only and intelligent human being can ask such a question.

Regarding the answer -
You definitely exist as is your experience. But the question is what is the real "You".
Are you the body? Body is just a lump of matter that cannot be real you, as the body changes continuously but you remain the same.
Are you the mind? Are you the thoughts? Feelings? What are You? Try to find out what really are you. And it will answer if you are real or not.

I'm not sure how the answer the first part of your question (i.e. "Am I real"). The term "real" is so broadly used and ambiguous...do you mean real as in non-fictional? Do you mean real as in authentic? There are many other senses in which it's used.

The question of existence is more interesting. The moment you thought the question "Do I exist" you had all the assurance you needed to answer that question in the affirmative. When you ask that question you have direct access to the answer because if you are able to ask the question you know its answer while asking it....necessarily you must exist if you are thinking about whether or not you exist. See Descartes' Meditations on this one idea.

The fact that you wrote the question is evidence of your existance. Yes, you exist. Are you real is another question. You can be artificial and still exist.

WARNING:DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU ARE ABSENT MINDED--- You are a figment of your imagination. You exist in space but in deep thought. You float as a blob of mass in a swirling eternity of lost thoughts. You exist not as what you are but who you are. You exist in thoughts and mind. Not to be destroyed but meant to be killed. A fragment of life and spirit. A soul to live forever, and never die out. A whisk of swirling thoughts to take on different lives at different space. A mere thought or memory to be remembered or forgotten, but never ignored. You can die but you will always stay alive. You can think, but never dream to dream about what you think. You are an invisible feeling. An everlasting emotion. ---So basicly, ya. you exist.. Like my poem?

no, the definitive answer is "no". you may think you do, or you may think you don't. but there is no specific "I" or "you". at most you are a metaphor for an ant colony. a million different parts collected in a body that often give "the colony" a misleading impression that the "colony" has something the "colony" likes to call a soul, or "I", or "you". does an ant colony have a soul that is greater than the sum of its parts?

i hope this helps. or at least this particular colony of cells hopes this helps.

Life is real and all of us are real too. Life might not be perfect, but still its real, and its crual. sometimes i wish that it was all faick and illusion, but thats just a dream. I want to live in some other place, I want to open "THE DOORS OF PERCEPTION".

Well, i really wonder how you came up with that question....but if you're seeking an answer, you won't find it answered by a human. You should probably ask something else... why?

Because humans will believe the answer is yes.

Yes, because I'm answering a question from you and I'm real.

YES. Sometimes I get this really weird feeling when I actually think about my name, like "Cayleen O'Conner is a real person" it's kind of creepy.
