High hCG levels don't necessarily indicate multiples. Talk to your OB about your test results and possibly get a brief ultrasound. You won't be able to see much that early on, but you may be able to see if there is more than 1 growing in there!
During my first pregnancy, my hCG levels doubled every 24 hours (instead of 48), and I ended up miscarrying (as a matter-of-fact, it WAS a multiple pregnancy, but the egg didn't split right). My doctor told me she'd asked other doctors in her office about it, and one said he had a patient who had very high hCG levels and she ended up delivering a healthy baby. It could go either way, so try to remain calm for a few more weeks, and if you just can't do it anymore, don't be afraid to go see your OB!

I think they should be about the same. HCG really should read logarithmically. Even if twins would double the HCG levels it really doesn't mean much If your not sure what logrythmically means, it means how moany zeros there are in the number.

That is why they suspected I was carrying twins. I honestly do not remember the numbers, but they were correct. I had twin boys. I had an ultrasound before 8 weeks and they saw two heartbeats. They should be able to tell very shortly if you're carrying twins. If you are, you will do fine. It is a lot of work, but a blessing. Good luck!

this is very high but could be for a number of reasons.when i was 4 weeks mine was only 800.in a healthy pregnancy your levels double every 24-48 hours so can climb quickly but high levels can be a sign of more than one baby. only a scan will be able to tell you for sure.

When you are pregnant the level of hCG increases and usually doubles every two to three days. It then reaches a maximum level by the second or third month of pregnancy, followed by a decrease occurring in the third trimester.
Here are typical hCG Beta values in pregnant women up to 22 days post-retrieval (DPR) or days post-ovulation (DPO).
DPR or DPO Amount of hCG in mIU/ml
10 5 - 50
12 10 - 100
14 20 - 200
16 40 - 400
18 70 - 800
20 140 - 1600
22 180 - 3200
Here are the hCG Beta values given by the number of weeks after ovulation:
after the 1st week and 2 days 5.0 to 50.0 mUI/ml
Between 1st and 2nd week 5.0 to 500.0 mUI/ml
Between 2nd and 3rd week 100.0 to 5,000.0 mUI/ml
Between 3rd and 4th week 500.0 to 10,000.0 mUI/ml
Between 4th and 5th week 1,000.0 to 50,000.0 mUI/ml
Between 5th and 6th week 10,000.0 to 100,000.0 mUI/ml
Between 6th and 8th week 15,000.0 to 200,000.0 mUI/ml
Between 8th and 12th week 10,000.0 to 100,000.0 mUI/ml
Note: The levels of hCG for pregnant women with twins or more are usually higher than the values above, which represent the typical values for just one baby.

I had twins last year...and it is DOUBLE the hormones!! double the sickness, double the moodswings...etc, etc...so it might be just that...I know for me it was exactly what you are saying...
and it's not that bad to have twins, they are very sweet, you get the hang of it after a few weeks...
