Tv/radio ads lately keep using the term 'diamonds are forever.' Well, forever is a long, long, long time. Will that diamond you bought still be around a billion years from now?
I suggest you hang on to your receipt, pass it down generation to generation. When the diamond starts to fall apart, git yer money back.
Ooops, wait, the value of a dollar will be by then.. oh, let's see....... never mind.

Well, they're just rocks. Pretty rocks, but rocks none the less. They're not even rare, but we've been led to think that they are due to the fact that DeBeers almost completely controls the diamond supply (picture if you will a traditional supply/demand chart in your head right now). We're hung up on them due to clever marketing campaigns by DeBeers (who do you think financed movies such as, "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" etc?) DeBeers is a true monopoly. I suggest everyone do a little research before they fork out the big bucks for a little, overpriced rock that is just as "forever" as, well, just about any other rock.

Nothing is forever except the Universe, probably. Diamonds will turn into powder billion years later.
