noe for an ulcer flare-up? I don't understand how expiration dates can be exact. I mean if it says that it expires on December 31st, does that mean it isn't okay on January 1st?

Actually a doctor told me that drug companies put those expiration dates there earlier then when the medication is no longer usable for the obvious reason-MONEY! If a prescription is no longer "good" then the person has to buy more.

On the expiration date, the manufacturor no longer backs the product. They might be fine, they might be toxic. Some drugs do degrade into toxic chemicals i.e. tetracycline.
The expiration date is the date the company stopped testing it's stability. It does not mean the drug will go bad the next day.

Generally if they are not super outdated you can use them but if they have been expired for a year as these seem to be then toss them. Better to be safe than sorry. If you are ever in doubt about a medication call your pharmacist and get his opinion.

i wouldn't take anything expired that long. A month or so is probably okay, but i'm not so sure about a year.

"Over time many drugs lose their potency, they do not become toxic. Usually if you take an expired drug you can expect less action but not toxic action."
