There's a lot of good reasons not to. If it's a really fantastic story, you should try sending it to a publisher where you might get paid for it. (There are a few of those online, but I get the feeling you're just talking about posting it where anyone can read it.) A lot of authors have different opinions on whether posting something on a public website hurts your chances of getting it published elsewhere later. There doesn't seem to be a set standard right now. Some publishers don't care, others seem to. I did post the first draft of my novel online and had a blast doing it. I received a lot of helpful feedback from people all over the world who read it. I'm not sure I'd have ever finished my manuscript if I didn't know I had a group of faithful readers waiting for the next installment... But I don't know if I hurt my chances of finding a "real" publisher doing it that way or not. To be on the safe side, I don't post my new work anymore.

It can, in fact just go to amazon affilates and sign up they will put a series of banners on your site to books about the topic of your site. ANd everytime someone buys something you get at least 5%. I am pretty sure other sites do it too.

Yes; get some advertisers. You can also charge fees for people to visit your site. Add some content that people will pay to see and you're in business.
