I used to ride with my truck driver husband around the country and we definitely noticed different fast food everywhere. Besides the huge chains that are everywhere...
Texas has Whataburger, Chicken Express and Taco Cabana. Didn't see those in any other states.
Eastern states have Braums, which is similar to Dairy Queen.
Southern and western states have Jack in the Box. Southern states are also big on fried chicken, so you have Popeyes and Church's Chicken.
Northern states have Steak N Shake. (Though I have heard several of their managers say they are "quick food" not "fast food" and they are pricey!)
In the Midwest you can find Checkers, Hardees (which is exactly like Carls Jr), and White Castle - all hamburger places. Also Taco Bueno mostly in Oklahoma. I only saw Sonic in the Midwest and the South.
And my very favorites of all time, Big Boy and Hi-Boy, can only be found in the Kansas City (MO) area. They have the best chocolate shakes and tater tots ever!

In the quad cities in Iowa, we have around 4 Pizza Huts, 5 Happy Joes, 6 Domino's, 1 Bucks, and several other smaller one's. We have an 1 Arby's, 12 McDonalds, 6 Wendy's, 6 Hardee's, 6 Burger King, 1 Checkers, 2 Steak and Shake. Mexican foods we have many, but 3 Ganzo's and 2 Rudy's are the biggest chains of it. This is only on the Iowa side of the river.

Here in the town where I live in Kentucky we have a strip about a mile long and on that strip we have Papa John's, Domino's, Pizza Hut, Wendy's, Rally's, Burger King, McDonalds (2 of them), A&W, Long John Silver's, Captian D's, Taco Bell, SubWay, Penn Station, Sonic, Hardee's, Arby's, and a KFC.
A little bit further down there's a Robin Hood, Popeyes Chicken, Steak and Shake, White Castle, Moby Dick, and a Fazoli's.
The only thing we have more of around here is pawn shops. :0(

I like this question. Its light, but its still a QUESTION.
I live in So Cal. And both of us being Californian, I don't think we have alotta different fast food joints. In-n-Out is delicious and surpasses all the other fast food places. Its definitely in a fast food league of its own. I think Carl's and Jack in the Box and all those are in every state. But, I bet other states have their own places like In-N-Out which THEY think is the best.
