Not all rap music is bad, but a large majority of rappers claim they are only "talking about their way of life" while promoting drugs, sex, crime & violence. I think it is very disturbing.....I think it is shameful that these young girls dance around half naked and allow themselves to be referred to as b***hes and ho's.... I also think rap music glamorizes a criminal lifestyle...

The problem is some of these rappers are very talented....they are just misusing their talent so bad because they are not being guided by the right influences....

Back in the day when I was growing up, we had good rap music...it had style and personality, the rappers were creative and they really had talent ..... they told a story, The Fat Boys, Heavy D, Slick Rick Big Daddy Kane...people like this...these were the true talents

I think it has to do with what is available to hear on the radio. The curious, like me, switch radio channels all the time. When I go to the rap stations I don't hear the exceptional groups like The Roots, The Fugees, Missy Elliot and (yes) Beastie Boys. I hear Jay-Z making a 3 minute commercial about his bling. I hear something that sounds like some joe with a poem went into a studio and said I'll rap this to soundtrack #3. I listen for about 10 seconds to see if it has a hook and then I'm on to another station. If that's all you hear then you are going to have the opinion that it all stinks.

Good question! I almost only listen to rap music but most my friends do not. I figure they just don't actually take time to listen to what the meaning of the song is. I think rap has alot of meaning in their lyrics, some positive and some not. They express themselves better than most musicians.

Because people are unique and different and it may not be pleasing to their ears or maybe they cant understanding could be a number of reason. Some people hate pop music It not a matter of the music I think it how a particular song makes you feel. Lover of all music.

To me it's not the lyrics that bother me but the fact that it's a cpmputer generating the "music" with a person taking to the beat made by the computer.. The only argument I see to this is drum beats but the beats are done once and then just played on a loop.

I may be biased because I am a rock guitar player but that is my diagnosis.

I can't say that I hate it all, it's just that it has lost something over the years. It seems all they talk about is STRIPPERS now. Young girls think that is a career goal. The rappers don't respect women for the most part, including the ones in their videos. What happened to rap?

One problem is the limited exposure. Many think of the crap on MTV when they think of rap. Not only is there a huge cultural barrier there, the junk on MTV is all 'bling/gangsta/money' oriented. It does not accurately or fairly represent the art form.

Most people don't know anything about the underground rap scene. There is a ton of talent and it's not anywhere near as culturally biased as what you see on TV

I think a lot of people stereotype it. like rappers back in the day actually rapped about stuff that's meaningful, like tupac, ice cube etc.... it's true that some rappers rap about nothing. I can't stand when people say they don't like a certain type of music, because you really don't know what you like until you listen to everything.
