As a minority, I have felt like we do get discriminated at times....but even minorities discriminate against each other. Even when I was a little girl I tried to make friends with an African American little boy and he told me he didn't like Mexicans. What do people have against Mexicans and other races. Everybody in America is the same, right?

Some are trained by their parents or friends, others feel bad about themselves and their life so they choose to talk down on others thinking that it somehow lifts them up. It is silly and childish. Luckily some people grow up and leave the childish things behind them.

And yes, all americans are the same.

I think most of the time it's a learned behavior. Many children grow up hearing their parent's or other relatives criticizing other races, cultures, religions...etc... and so that child thinks that it's ok to hate someone who is "Different" then they are. It's very disturbing and sad.
No, everybody in America isn't like this. I was raised by parents that taught me that we're all equal and that was that. It wasn't until I was 18 and moved away from home and really seen how hateful people can be to each other based on race, religion, sexual orientation and all the other messed up beliefs. I moved to a State where many people frequently used racial slurs against anyone who wasn't white, and even though I'm white, it still made me angry.
My husband and I are raising our children the way our parent's raised us. And a plus for us is that we're a Military Family, so our kids (Ages 8, 6, 4, 2) have been exposed to different cultures and races from all over the world. I'm not just saying this, but I don't think my kids even realize when someone is African American, Hispanic or any other race. Just like this year, my 8 year old was coming home from school and asking about gay people and if they were bad because he had heard this from a classmate. We explained to him that they are absolutely not bad and it's never ok to think otherwise. There are enough haters in this world, and I'm not about to raise four more.

Sometimes it's based on what people hear as kids- if their parents talk badly about a certain ethnic group they do the same, because they don't know any better. Sometime people have a bad experience with someone who is XXXX and they assume all people of that group are bad.

Yeah everyone in America is the same (NOT!) If you are unhappy about people discriminating and making assumptions, why are you doing the same thing?

I am not sure how old you are but it sounds as if you are still very new to the game, people will always be predjudice, you cant get away from it, just love you for who you are dont worry what others think, you have to live for you and your future family, it doesnt matter why they are racist, they are and i bet they dont even know why, if your "mexican" then answer this... why do cubans, rican and dominicans all dislike each other? it is what it is. just know that you are a beautifull person inside and out and if someone cant love you for you or like you because of your race then F@#K THEM!

Everyone is the same, but there are people that refuse to look passed certain things and are scared of what they dont know about (that being you). I deal with the same thing being Puerto Rican and I have been told by other "minorities" similar things. It happens to all "minorities". Good luck and dont stress over things like that. They will always occur..its how you deal with them that matters.... :) But like the other guy said, sometimes parents and people who are around teach them how to think towards others. It may not be their fault, thats the cycle of prejudice..Hope that helps..

the parents teach their children to be that way it is passed down from generations before each race believes that they are the best it will always be a problem as i am native american i here it too.ive learned to not listen to it i have my friends and family that love me and if someone doesnt want to ba my friend because of my nationality their probably not the kind of person i would want to be friends with any way.

It would be great if everyone just got along, unfortunately, we all have relatives that teach us how to hate! Even if its just talking about a persons color or race...that idea is in the back of your mind for life.

People are not born prejudice....they are taught to be prejudice. That little boy probably only heard that coming from an adults mouth.

WELL YOU ARE OF COURSE RIGHT.
It is never good to not accept your fellowmen as your equals, but back to reality.
When you you grow in a bigot society, you tend to do the same, which is not good ever, but it sadly happens all the time.
I WOULD NOT TAKE TO MUCH NOTICE OF IT:AS LONG AS YOU STAY YOUR SWEET SELF,YOU WILL BE FINE:I HATE NO ONE:MERRY X-MAS TO YOU.

It is easier to hate what you don't understand than to put in the effort of learning. Ignorance is the glue that makes prejudice stick.
