You and your wife are the parents for heaven's sake.
Set rules and consequences if they are borken.
If that doesn't work, trash the dern computer. Or lock it up where he can't get to it. BE THE GROWNUP.

There are programs that can restrict his use on the net but one suggestion is not to put the internet in his room because what is done in private rarely is discovered. I am a Computer Professional and a Minister and I suggest to parents that it's fine to keep a computer in a childs room for school work but a computer with internet access should be kept in a public place in the house where a parent will likely be during the time a child ( 14 is still a child ) will be on the internet. Don't allow his access to continue in his room. That would be what I would suggest or purchase a copy of KidSafe or Kid Protect and install it. It will allow you to view his chat logs and instant messages. Please heed to this as there are many dangers on the internet.

Have her unhook the connection from the router...from the base modem. She can learn that with no problem. Other than that how about you take the computer out of his room until he learns responsibility. Or just take the computer plug out at whatever time and don't give it to him to be able to plug his computer in until a certain time the next day. Maybe just punish him anytime he is caught using the internet after a certain time...lots and lots of things could be done...Its called parenting.

Pull the plug right out of the wall or if that doesn't work, most routers let you set an off time and/or an on time.

yo, just contact your provider or simply teach your wife how to. That's the system they have here in my school
THe real problem seems to be why is your son online anyways? Possiblility is that he had a crush but you dont let him socialize and has to resort to talking to her online...or maybe he's got no life and spends all his time playing strategy games and quests and s*** like that. Rub that in his face and he'll be self concious and stop all on his own.
and also if you cut him off at home he'll just find some other way to get online.

There's a website where you can download software to do this. My relative's use it. They have to log into it to access the internet, and after a certain time limit (or time) its cuts them off. Its only on the computer itselft, nothing to do with routers, etc.

Try this. I'm not sure how it works, never had to use it before.

Put your computer in the living room and don't hook up the phone line until you want him to go online. Encourage him to explore the outdoors and make friends that he can actually see and be with instead of just on the net where he may never meet.

Show your wife how to get into the router monitoring program and disable his internet acces.
If that doesn't work, try a light timer on the computer.

How on earth have you gotten through 14 years as a parent? Take the computer away! Take it with you to work! He's 14, he doesnt have any right to use it! If your wife tells him to stop useing it, why is he still using it? He shouldn't have his fingers anywhere near it, he doesn't have any impulse control.

Take the plug out of the computer and tell him he is not allowed on after what ever time. And at that time if you can't trust him take the plug out.
