Anyone here or a signifigant other of someone here have a balanced translocation and have children?? AKA a chomosome rearrangement. If so, please share your story with me. My husband and I are planning to start a family but are concerned because he has a balanced translocation (he himself is perfectly fine and normal except for the fact that he carries the gene for it.) and we know there can be difficulties due to it. We could use any help or advise from someone who has experiance with this, we dont know where to start. Thanks in advance!!

I don't know all of the details, but I worked with a girl who had a switched chromosome and was pregnant. She had been pregnant before and her son not only had Down's, but died at birth. When I was working with her and she found out was pregnant again, as soon as she was far enough along, she had an amnio to check and see if everything was as it should be so she could make a decision and prepare herself for whatever was to come.
I know that's probably not what you're looking for, and that's all the info I have on that particular case. I would suggest talking to your doctor about it to find out if there are other options or ways to tell with these things. And I really wish you the best of luck.
