The deadly and disastrous civil war in the US caused the unity of many states and the creation of a great country. It would be impossible to imagine today a war between California and Oregon.
Could we think that the wars going on in the world today are similar to the civil war in the US and will be the cause of world unity?

That all depends on what the war is about, and who the winner is. The US Civil War was about Federalization VS States Rights. The issue of slavery was used on both sides for their own gain, but was not the reason for the war.

Most of the wars today are much less "Civil" and are caused along Religious, and or Ethnic lines. Darfur is Arab Muslim against African Muslim. Although the past war against Saddam Hussein vs Kuwait was civil and Desert Storm 2 was started over civil differences, the result has turned into Sunni VS Sheite(sp) Muslim. Iran and many other Arab states want to push Israel into the sea. While Israel want them to accept their right to exist.

To summarize, I don't think there are many similarities between Our Civil War and the ones going on today. The only one I see is that Soldiers Die, and Innocents die as well.

Our soldiers fought each other. While some civilians died in the process, neither side specifically targeted large groups of civilians or hid in religious structures as a means of winning the war.

Though it would be convenient to believe that there are parallels between the ACW ("American Civil War") and current conflicts around the globe today, the truth could not be further. For one, the opposing forces in the ACW were both modern democracies (though one could argue that the Confederacy was a somewhat oppressive regime since it advocated slavery). Historically speaking, it is extremely rare for two democracies to wage war with one another. Many of today's conflicts are being waged by authoritarian and totalitarian regimes.

Second, one of the key contributing factors to the ACW was the issue of States' rights versus the Federal governments authority. The States that seceded believed that their autonomy and individual sovereignty took precedence over that of Federal authority. This is in stark contrast to many of today's conflicts which occur in regions where there simply is no central authority and the power struggles tend to be between groups on a much smaller scale, based more on religious ideology and tribalism, etc.

Uhhhhhh....what?

Don't know who you're getting your history lessons from, but they're shoveling a load of revisionism on you.
What States were unified by the War that weren't before?

The Country had been formed 87 years earlier and the War did nothing to solidify it more than it was.
In fact, I think the country's still divided into North and South.
Regionalism still reigns over Federalism...
