Can anyone tell me if filing for abandonment is a good idea in trying to get divorced?

My friend's husband left the State with her children. They are separated, and my friend wants to file for "abandonment". Can anyone give me a little information on this? Thank You!

It is a grounds for divorce in probably all states. Good idea compared to what? Depends on the state where your friend resides.
