Gray Forest, Helotes, Boerne and New Braunsfels are all nice. All of them are on the north/west-west side of town in the Hill Country.

Boerne is maybe 30 minutes Northwest of San Antonio..it is a beautiful piece of the "Hill Country" and it was just picked as one of the top 100 places to live in the US. I live in Kerrville..I'd recommend it but that's like an hour from S.A.

Helotes is roughly 15-20 minutes from downtown SA depending on traffic.

How about Castroville? It's west of town.
