i did a heart last year and we did it in pairs while our teacher told us step by step what to do.

you really should be fine because its just like handling raw meat.. the only difference being the smell... but there are worse things. we did kidneys recently and they were MUCH worse than hearts.

basically you'll get your heart and a board and a scalpel and possibly a little probey stick type thing lol! and some scissors maybe? and then you'll chop it where the teacher tells you and look for various structures or whatever. it's fine honestly.

one thing i would strongly advise against tho lol... is.. unless your teacher tells u to... don't try and cut the top of the muscle if you get me. because me and my friend were messing about and we just kind of shaved the side of the muscle wall off and it looked like chicken inside and i couldn't eat chicken for months!!

other than that though you should be fine. =) have fun!!

Its great fun. Have your mum go and buy some liver from the supermarket and have a feel and take it apart, least if you are going to pass out, you will do it when no one can see you.

Once you get past the feel of it and possibly the smell you should be fine. Like I said have a pre run of it first at home. If you can get a heart, all the better.
