you can take birth control and skip over the last week (which are just sugar pills) and move onto the next packet. Most doctors don't suggest you do this for more than 3 months at a time and when you do let yourself have a period, it will often be more crampy and heavy. This is very useful if you've got a big trip, wedding or anniversary coming up and don't want to worry about your period!

Yes you can.
The most common way is to get pregnant.
This stops it for about 9 months.
If you have recently given birth, you can nurse you baby and this will stop your period for a while.
Another way is to have a hysterectomy, but this is a surgical proceedure and is quite extreme.
But if you want to stop your period for a while and then start it again in the future you can ask your doctor for a birth control pill that you can take continuously, this will stop your period, but there may be side effects that I am not aware of. It would be best to have a frank and full discussion with your Doctor.
Additionally, women who lose a lot of weight or exercise a lot sometimes stop having their periods.
And the last and final way to stop your period is to grow older, some time in your 40's, 50's or 60's you will go through menopause and your periods will stop.

Certain hormone birth controls can cause you to not get a period. I was on the Depo Provera shot for five years and did not get a period at all during that time after my body initially adjusted to the hormones (some irregular spotting in the begining is natural).

Unfortunately there has since been studies showing staying on Depo Provera for any length of time over two years can be harmful, as it decreases your bone density. This is most dangerous for older women.

I now take Seosonale, a birth control pill which you take every day but only gives you a period four times a year (once every three months).

It is not a stupid question at all and the answer is yes you can. There is a birthcontrol pill called seasonal .
Taking this pill on time every day at the same time everyday will stop your period for 3 months. You will have a period every three months - that is 4 times a year. Ask your doctor. I was given this because I am very anemic and had heavy periods. They wanted to stop my periods.

Not a stupid question at all. They have that pill that you take continuously and only get 4 periods a year. But I heard the first year there's alot of bleeding in between periods.

If you just want to skip one like b/c you're going on vacation or whatever. You can start a new pack of pills when you're supposed to get your period or put on another patch when you you're supposed to be on your break.

I'm in a LD relationship and timing is EVERYTHING, if you know what I mean. I've done it several times before. Ask you doctor about it

I would say that there is no such thing as a stupid question, but then again if you have spent time on this website, you would know differently.

Anyhoos, there are birth control methods that you can take to stop your period. I can't think of the name of the one I took, but I took the "active" pills continuously and didn't have a period for a year (I was in Iraq and didn't want to bother with it).

Go talk to your gynecologist :-)

Only through medications prescribed by your physician.
Doctor once put me on continuous bc pills w/ the instructions to not take the week of green pills and just start a new pack. But I still had break through bleeding...and mentally/emotionally if I didn't have a period for a year I just felt as though I needed it. It was like having pms 24/7 till I'd finally just disregard his instructions and take a week break.
There are now bc pills and other forms that lessen your period and/or stop it all together.

During a period? No.

Stop it all together? Yes. There are a few ways.
One, excercise and diet to an extreme, your body will lose most of its fat and eventually you will stop your periods. This is not a good thing.

For some women, the insertion of an IUD (by a doctor) stops a period as well. Two types of IUD's are available in the USA. One lasts for five years, one lasts for ten years. Stopped periods does not work for all women, just some.

Another way to stop your period is to become so stressed that your body reacts by doing strange things, one of which would be to stop your period.

Another way to stop the period - menopause!

Yes.. you can go on birth control and just never take that week off when u are supposed to get ur period. It isn't considered good for you but Drs cant prove it to be bad for you either. A human doesn't NEED to have their period... it is just the signs that you are ready to become pregnant.

To make it lighter you can go on bcp which specificly do it like Loestrin 24.
Yuo can also excersize alot which makes it shorter and lighter.

Also if you are anerexic or belemic that can cause your period to stop all together. But I seriously would not recommend that one

If you take birth control pills, you can skip the "off" week and just move right to the first week of the next batch. After about one month you probably won't have your next period. Be careful though, it's not healthy to mess with nature. It can also mess you up permanently (as far as reproduction) if you do this toomuch or for too long.
