devil worship

2006-12-15 06:43:31 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 3

Some Christians refer to paganism or any non Judeo-Christian based faith as Satanism or Devil worship because of a belief that "false doctrines" are designed by the devil to persuade people away from "the true faith".

Satanism or the church of satan ripped off the Pagans mostly due to Alister Crowley who was more of a hedonist than a serious practitioner of pagan beliefs.

Paganism is more than just wicca, it is made of Odinists (people who worship the ancient Nordic gods) and people who practice any of the ancient faiths that predate Christianity such as those who worship Isis, the Greek pantheon and others. Wicca is taken from ancient druidic and more recently from various other Earth based religions. The problem is many of the Celtic tribes all over Europe (the Celts stretched from Ireland to Asia Minor at one point) never wrote down any of their practices or history so what is being practiced now is based on hearsay going back thousands of years and maybe grossly innaccurate.

Pagans are pretty much modern polytheists.

"Pagan"- from the original Roman 'Paganae'.

During Roman tax times they sent out collectors to the two different groups they had in the lands.
Paganae (town dweller) and Civitae (city dweller)

In Rome back then, most people in the cities worshiped Sol Invictus and the surrounding peoples worshiped the Deities of their choice. Rome did not care so long as the tax was paid.

After awhile the term Paganae began to take on a different meaning because of this religious difference. It meant more like what it is used for today. Interestingly enough it happened again (yes, History DOES repeat itself) in Scotland and England. The English began calling people 'Heathens' (people who lived far out on the heaths and moors (Scottish swamps) . After awhjile it too changed because the English following the Church of England and the 'heathens' followed something else.

Paganism is the use of spiritual magickal practice. The first answer is retarded. We don't have a "satan" or "devil". We have open minds about everything yet get bombarded by assumptions by the christians every day because they are afraid of the truth.

We have a multiple-deity system, the females being dominant. The God and the Goddess are the absolute rulers, and all other Gods and Goddesses are under their rule.

It just so happens that Paganism has several branches, as do most religions, and we have the Wiccans, Druids, Celtics, Shamans and others of whom I don't know the name(s) of. They are directly under Paganism.

Paganism covers a wide spectrum of spiritual beleifs. A comparison is like saying Christianity, which covers Lutheran, Baptist, Catholic, etc....

Paganism refers to shamanistic, ecstatic, polytheistic, and magical religions. Most of the religions termed Pagan are grounded in nature-centered spirituality. They refer to pre-Christian deities, personal belief systems, lack of institutionalization, a quest to develop the self and percoanl energy.

If you are truly interested in seeing what its all about, do some research. Not internet blogs so much as many people have a wide and completely different way of looking at it, much of which is founded in a lack of knowledge. But your local library or bookstore is a great place to start.

I was very surprised when I started looking into it how much information was out there and how many types of spiritual focus there were. I learned its not just pagan, but wiccan, druidism, shamanism, etc. There are version of each of these as well, Celtic, Neo-paganism, etc. Perhaps you will find you connect with one more than the other.

Or you may discover none connect and thats fine too. But at least you will have a better understanding of what it truly is. :)

it is NOT devil worship/magic/other related things

those were made up by the Christian church in the middle ages. pagan worship is simply belief in multiple gods, such as the Romans did.
