Depended on which beach. Utah was a walkover. Omaha was a bloodbath with many defences still in place and the landing forces got pinned down on the beach until they managed to break through at Dog Green.
Sword,Juno and Gold provided stiff opposition but the landings were better organised and casualties were fewer.
