Baked snowman shaped sugar cookies, frost them just before the party then turn the kids loose with mini m&m's, sprinkles, writing gel, etc. That will keep them busy for at least ten minutes, also will omit need for prize. Another idea is to buy clear ball ornaments, twist off tops, and have kids drop in tempra paint or some other 'wet paint' and swirl it around, replace tops and they have their very own ornament...another 15 minutes..at least!
See how many words they can make out of the phrase Merry Christmas? Have them draw a picture of the one thing they want most for Christmas.

Have a friend (preferabbly older chubby male) to dress up as Santa and come in to see the class. Let them sit on his lap and talk to him; if they dont believe in Santa, or feel too old, they can sit at a table/desk and make ornaments for their parents; just use a box of bowtie and normal noodles and let them glue them to a cardboard shape; christmas tree. Then, just get someone to paint the ornament. Kids love crafts they can take home and show off.

Any craft that takes thought, but isn't too tedious. Keeping it simple in regard to the supply-list, but letting their imaginations run wild, is usually the best way to go.
Maybe a last-minute gift for parents ... an ornament of some sort with the child's name on it (and don't forget to put the year on it as well).
Good luck ... 2nd graders are so much fun! I was homeroom Mom for my son's class when he was that age.

I was class mom for my daughter's 3rd grade class a few years ago. What we did was crumpled up a bunch of junk paper to represent snowballs and we divided the classroom in half. Then the kids had a mock snowball fight. The kids had a great time. We also cut out snowflakes.

-You could play the game Pin the red nose on Rudolph.
-Have them cut weird shapes in folded white paper so they can make their own unique snowflakes & you can tell them that each snowflake that falls is different & unique like the ones that they cut themselves. (GIVE INFO ON SNOWFLAKES TAHT THEY DIDNT KNOW )
-You could make cut outs of their hand prints & build a Christmas tree.
-Depending on how many kids are in the class: go to the Dollar Store/Tree & buy a gift thats a dollar to give as a prize. That way, no matter what, they all win something.

I have a great idea. If they want to serect Santa exchange, you should make it a book exchange. were they pick a name and buy that person the kind of books that they like to read.(on that person's name they'll put the type of books they like to read. EX: cooking, scary, suspense, etc.) That way your encouraging them to read ,and your not just stopping your curriculum. I know I'm not a teacher but my teacher thought it would be a great idea for my 8th grade class and might be helpful for your 2nd grade class as well, and to keep them busy they could read their books together with a friend or read aloud to the class. hope i helped.

You are a saint ! Ask them to bring a small present and put them all under the tree.Label them A , B, C etc Prepare the day before some pieces of paper with each childs name, put in a wide mouth jar and ask each one to pick a recipient when you "raffle out" each letter of the alphabet.

The movie Elf...that is right at their level. That is a cute little christmas movie that should hold their attention. Get some christmas themed popcorn and tell them all to bring their fluffy pillows to sit around and watch movies...
Bring a couple of extra for those that forget to bring their fluffy pillows.

Give each child a red pipe cleaner (or other Christmas color) and just enough large hole beads to count down the days till Christmas.
Let them string the beads on the pipe cleaner and then bend down the ends to hook the pipe cleaner in a circle. They now have a tree ornament from which they can remove one bead each day....when the beads are gone......wa-la its CHRISTMAS!
