At times I am scared at how little some people know about other cultures or countries!

Is it that bad for our children to learn world geography, world literature and world history?

Is it enough just to learn about your own culture?

I ask this, because on many occasions when I tell people I'm from Mexico, their first reaction is... where in New Mexico? or... Wow! Nice and warm there.. (not all of Mexico is on the beach)...

I know in my world geography class, 90% of what we did was memorize the different countries, capitals of each country, and different rivers in each country. We learned next to nothing in the school about the different countries themselves. I think it would be great in schools if in world geography they would do something like spend a week on a certain country and learn all kinds of things about that country. I've always thought with as much fear of different religions as there is, the fear would lessen if schools would start offering a class that would teach the kids all the different religions. But I don't ever see that happening with the government as much against religion in schools as it is.

I have read over four 1000 books. I am addicted to the learning of many things. cultures is one of them.that I feel is highly important to know of. people should hold there cultures in there hearts and minds and all people should respect others cultures. humans can be such fascinating creatures. I hope people will retain there ways in the future., it will be such a shame if people don't know of there history and respect it and hold true to it. I wish you the Best and I Hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

And when you tell people you are from America they say "Hollywood?" or "New York?" Or they think you are a cowboy or something.

Our knowledge about other cultures is hideous. It would do us ALL a lot of good to learn more about all the different cultures.
