That has been bugging me for years! For that matter, why can't people spell, or use punctuation? People don't realize that no matter how smart they are, or how incorrectly we speak the English language; when they write something on paper without the correct punctuation and spelling that it makes him/her look really unintelligent.

Same reason why people cannot use there, their, they're, your, you're, to, too, breath, breathe, and other similar words correctly. I understand the occasional typo, but simple mistakes like these are so commonplace that I do not believe it. I have noticed it, too; people think that if there is an S on the end, it must need an apostrophe. IT'S very annoying. Proper grammar should have ITS place in YOUR life by the time YOU'RE a grown adult. Certainly you would not say: DVD is $1 each, or The Wilson has live here.

I know. Isn't it annoying? There are so many people who have no idea of when to use an apostrophe. Any word ending in S gets an apostrophe. You see it everywhere, on signs in shops, roadside signs, newspaper ads, real estate windows, etc. "Childrens' book's" "Ladie's sock's" "Lake famous for it's beauty" "Your's is the best one". AAArrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!

It's called, they are ignorant, uneducated people who don't care that they are. And, their ignorance is not limited to the misuse of apostrophes, it's grammar and spelling as a whole. We are raising a nation of idiots who don't care that they are idiots.

They are illiterate, I guess. Or they never learned when or where to use apostrophes.

And why do people put random words in quotation marks on those handmade store sign's? (he-he)
For example: We "sell" soda; "Extended" hours for the holidays, and so on...

It bothers me, too.
I'm also bothered by people who can't get their homophones right--their, there, they're, to, two, too, etc. This also seems to be approaching epidemic proportions.

Because the schools teach that it doesn't matter.
I'm grateful that there is someone else that has this issue. I thought I was alone.
