the plaque has to be red alder and pine and red oak are easiest for me to get to make the bookcase. I'm looking for any suggestions. Pine is much cheaper but i dont know if it will look as good. I'm not sure whether i want to stain it and with what but i would like the red alder plaque to look good with whatever wood i use whether it needs staining or not. It will be like a centerpiece of the bookcase.

well, i suggest that you make them with similar styles. if you have the detail be the same that will help significantly. in addition, i suggest you stain them to match as closely as you can. using scrap wood, that will be the best way to experiment.

problem being, the different types of wood have different grains, so ultimately, you will not be able to make the pieces look exactly the same.
