Good u have started to ask this question. This is the starting for realising one's self.

When someone asks you who are you?

Has anyone asked you this ?

Yes many a times,

For Eg: When you are entering a very secured building , the security guards would ask you Who are You? Where do u come from ?

What would be ur reply , ofcourse you will introduce ur self as by telling your name and the place You came from .

Can anyone "When such a question is put up " won't You realise what sitauation your are in in answering a particular question.

You can't obviuously tell the Security guard
that
Even i don't know who i am? and where i came from ?
I am also contemplating for answers for this question. Then you could possibly land up in an asylum or Hospital for Mentally disordered.

So first in the process of realisation , be aware , you don't have to necessarily sit in a calm place and ask these questions. Then what would happen to your livelihood if you continue to do so, be practical and also be detached.I mean you should be attached and also be detached.Am i confusing you?

If it is so good you are slowly getting into it.

In practicality you cannot absolve yourself relinquish all your duties , put aside all your work and sit quietly ,

do u agree ?

so be aware of yourself every moment, no sentimental attachments whatsoever, even when u have a family you have to be attached , at the same time be detached. LOVE ALL HATE NONE , very difficult but comes by practice.

You will have so many prejuduices, ask yourself r u always perfect , accept everyone as they are ,
they can do sins, do mistakes, do any wrong deeds , but you stay calm and continue to be the same way as you have been before knowing too much about him.Because you are not the Supreme to punish or pardon them.AM i correct?

It is very simple , but very difficult to practice. In the process at sometimes you might feel you are not there in although you are physically there.Enjoy every moment of your life .
Forget ur past, forget the present . Be in this moment bec u r the creator of this moment , Be in the present which is the Omnipresent.

This may look like verses from a book , no it is my years of practice of questoining WHO AM I?

I am now only sharing whatever little the person inside me has taught me. It was and also is difficult many a times bec preaching is the easiest thing but practising is the toughest.

I am not a preacher , i go into a very enjoyable mood when it comes to speaking about this SELF REALISATION bec i am in the present , the Omnipresent.

If you are a Beginner things might get very compliacted at times, don't give up this process, it's the only thing which make your life full, believe me this is the purpose of LIFE.

Don't waste , start now or it will be never.

-- Bye

ALL THE BEST

First identify who is trying to know? Because this is where you start!!!
If it the body who is trying to know which is the accumulation of the five earth elements, then you are in the material plain of the universe where all your thinking will be materialistic. Thus it will lead to the answer that is all the things put together is the self. THIS IS THE MANIFESTED SELF.
If it is the mind who is trying to know? Which is the sum to total information of the five sense organs. Then your are in the mental plane of the universe, but you will still perceive only the manifested self automatically stringing thoughts from your senses trying desperately to make it be something that you want it to be!!!.
If you can go beyond the sense organs and mind (trying not to pay attention to the thoughts let the visions come don’t try to interpret them they will slowly fade away) what is left is the real self because it cannot be you. Actually it is the awareness that is there but it is not you it is the self. THYSELF.

We find it easy to criticize others, but we often find it most difficult to evaluate our beliefs. After all, we wouldn't believe something if we didn't think it was correct, right? The truth is, though, that many of our beliefs are wrong, or at least inaccurrate. The goal is to "Know Thyself."

To do this one must have the (extremely difficult) ability to evaluate one's own beliefs. Sometimes the easiest way to do this is to listen to criticism from someone you trust, who is also someone who will tell you the hard, honest truth about yourself. Knowing thyself is just simply being able to view yourself as you are...not as what you want to be or what someone else wants you to be.

Think what you came with. Did it have a name? from where it did come? father alone could not have done it neither mother so some thing in father and some thing in mother produced you. what are these two separate things? from where did they come?
How is that the same parents produce both male and female children? It is not the question of x/y chromosomes. how did this x&y got formed?Where did you come from? where were you before that? Why you are what you are? Why every one is different? Go on asking the questions and you will know yourself someday.

the self intended in the quote is the "higher self", the soul, not the "egoic self" of everyday life. the classic methods for gaining knowledge and contact with that Self is through the practices of meditation, energy work such as chi kung, reiki, yoga, etc. your true nature is as an unlimited being, pure consciousness, and not someone imprisoned by ego and beta consciousness, materialism, greed, fear and "cluelessness". check out http://www.crystallotus.com http://www.cosmicharmony.com http://www.sahajayoga.com and the book *the complete idiot's guide to toltec wisdom* for helpful guidance. best of luck ;-)

You can know thyself if you take time out from all the other activities in your life, choose a very quiet place, sit and meditate....Ask your self questions...anything first that comes to your mind...Finally train your mind to focus on what the priorities are....you will, in time, learn to know yourself.....

In the word's of my late father, 'the biggest sin one can commit is to deceive oneself'....And when asked if it was OK to deceive others, he responded, 'that too is deceiving oneself'....

Human beings are capable of self awareness. Using this as the key, a person can deepen the perception beyond the sensory level, and then the "self" would reveal itself !

To know yourself is to know who, what, why, and where you come from. You have to understand that you are connected to everything in this universe and it is connected to you. Allowing yourself to become one with the energy around you is apart of understanding and knowing every facet of yourself. Of course this is just a psuedo-New Age answer. I suppose you can know yourself by knowing what you want out of life and getting it.
