Baby essentials are best - clothes, bibs, burping cloths, bathing supplies, etc. Even though the "gift" is for the baby, it's really for the parents, and parents totally appreciate this kind of stuff.

Also, if you do buy clothes, remember to buy for the appropriate season. People have given me the cutest outfits for my boys, but they couldn't wear them because the size was for the wrong season. Can't wear shorts in the middle of winter!

Since Christmas is coming up, I'd suggest you get the baby a furry little elf with a long nightstalking with a jingle bell attached to the end, where will you find this so specific item? Well, I'm not sure but I am sure you will find something like at after wandering around the toy isle at a supermarket for a few minutes. The baby will enjoy the noise the bell makes and will also enjoy rubbing up against the soft fur when she goes to sleep at night. I would suggest a book instead, but maybe a couple years from now since she is very young. If you cant find an elf then just go with a big bear with a very bright appealing color like pink, purple, or blue. Note: make sure the bell on the elf is plastic or baby safe, seriously. A small canalope sized rubber ball would also be fun to have; I always wanted one when I was a babe. :/

My daughter loved the Baby Einstein DVDs. They have bright colors and soft pretty music. They can help baby's mind develop. It's a good gift plus it's an inexpensive gift, they are under $15.

You could get her anything from a cute stuffed animal to a new outfit. If you want to go with a toy, try finding something that is somewhat educational but yet for her age. A toy with bright colors is believed to stimulate the mind. Or if you absolutly can't decide what to get her you could always right a check for the amount of your choice and give it to the parents. Tell them that is is to either by something that the little girl needs or to be put into some type of educational fund.
