not a lot of detail on this question best bet assuming that there isn't any bleeding from the break in the nail just place medical tape or a band-aid, or there was a tear and bleeding did in fact occur best bet would be same treatment as above clean it out with alcohol or peroxide, then place some neosporin(or other topical cream) and bandage it keep an eye on it to ensure no change of infection and just keep trimming it your kids nail will be ok in a few weeks.

I'm assuming that the broken part is in the quick of the nail. The best thing to do is keep it taped with medical tape and let it grow out. The tape will keep the nail from snagging. Once a week, carefully trim the nail and re-wrap it. Do this as long as necessary for the injured nail to grow out.
