Studies show that a small amount of caffeine won't hurt your baby. But I wouldn't overdo it for several reasons. I drink coffee occasionally, but if you're also drinking sodas and/or tea, I'd cut back.

Have you tried decaf? It's not bad ... but I understand how hard it is to give up coffee.

Well, it's within the limit (16 ozs of coffee a day or two cups).....BUT is it coffee house coffee, espresso or anything else? Coffee's made in most coffee houses (starbucks and such) are made with HIGHER concentrations of caffine. That's usually why people are willing to pay the extra money. That is something to consider. Also, remember how many other things like chocolate also have caffine in them, so it may not be the only caffine you get in a day. I don't think it will harm the baby, but your baby might go through withdrawls after birth (ya know the horrible caffine headache you get if you skip a day....same thing!) also more prone to colic, acid reflux, and a few others. They aren't life threatening to the baby, but not comfortable. I would check further into what the caffine content is, ask your doctor the recommendations he/she has, and maybe try to cut back..... Smaller cup, every other day or halfcaf or a decaf. Good Luck either way!

I do sneak in a small french chocolate capicino once a week now.....so you're not alone!!

Well, I'm not a doctor. But I am a coffee addict. The caffeine is addictive. You get headaches if you don't have it. The caffeine gives you a serious boost. Gets you going. A brand new baby doesn't need such a boost.

My take on it is, why take the chance with your baby? Just give it up until after the pregnancy. Bottom line is, you want a healthy baby no matter what. So don't risk something that you are unsure of. You'll feel awful if you find out the hard way that is is harmful. So don't risk it. Good Luck!

No, it shouldn't hurt the baby. Of course you should limit your caffiene intake, but drinking 12 oz of coffee a day is ok. Just make sure you also drink a lot of water too!

Congratulations and good luck!

With my third child I consumes a lot more then 12 oz of caffine a day. I also had a 4 year old and a 4 month old I was taking care of and it was about the only way I could function. Talk my baby turned out just fine, but that doesn't mean that it didn't affect her. Talk to your Doc and see if he/she feels you and your baby are tollerating it okay.

I also had a friend that was so addicted to caffined that the Doc told her to stay on because if she went through withdrawls it could be fatal for her baby.

I sincerely doubt it.

I was told when I was pregnant 14 years ago, that I could have up to 30 oz of coffee (or other caffeinated beverages) daily; then I heard that NO caffeine was acceptable, then I heard that you could have up to 3 full cups of coffee daily. I sincerely believe that the medical community couldn't agree on ANYthing, let alone caffeine consumption!

12 oz should be just fine. But just to be certain, follow the advice of your OB/GYN.

I don't think one cup of coffee a day will hurt. When I was pregnant, I would drink about 3 cokes a day. My babies turned out just fine.

I'm pretty sure you can have just one cup of coffee a day. Maybe try to limit the amount, but my pregnant friend drank one cup and her son is just fine!
