Most banks take a thumb print if you cash a check at a bank you don't have an account at. It is for security if the person who wrote the check turns around and states that X person did not cash the check, another person did. It is a secure method of ID.

Yes, more banks are doing it. I recently went to the bank to deposit my husbands check & get $20 back, I'm not on that account, they wouldn't do it. It is for security reasons. Wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry? I have been fingerprinted before. Once your bank knows you they don't always print you.

Yeah, it's been going on for well over a decade at some banks. Typically they ink your thumb with ultraviolet ink and have you press your thumb on the check. If you refuse to do so, they'll probably refuse to cash the check.

Banks around here have been taking a right thumb print for a few years now.

We have a bank in town that takes your thumb print if you don't have an account with them. It's done in case the check is bad.

Absolutley they will finger print you, but only if you do not have an account with them. They do it so that they have a record of you in case you are cashing a forged or fraudelent check.
