today on NPR, they had a Republican and a Democratic group run some polls on the nation.. according to their OWN information the republican party continues to lose support.. unlike what many analysts predicted (most thought the election was a 'blow off' of steam and people would support the party again after that) these polls show the Democrats to be 18% ahead of Republicans in the poll in voting on a generic presidential candidate... Do you think this trend will continue? What are the Republicans who aren't affiliated with the extreemist republicans who are ruining their party going to do about this? what do you guys think?

As long as George Bush continues his current policies that will not change. As Bush changes, that landscape changes. Does anyone see any sign that Bush is willing to set aside his ego and consider changing the course in Iraq? Until we do, the poll numbers favoring the Democrats in 2008 will continue to rise. I'm sure you'll hear from some who say polls don't mean anything - but they sure rang true during the mid-terms didn't they? They are ringing true now as well. I get a kick also out of those who say that two years of a Democratic Congress will fix that. LOL! Two more years of Bush's incompetence trumps that card about ten times over.

As a democrat, I am confident in my party's ability to screw this up in 2 years. In 2004, if the Dems had run "not Bush" against Bush, "not Bush" would have won in a landslide. Instead they ran Kerry and...

If the Dems can get through the political process without eating each other and find a good candidate, the democratic agenda should prevail. If we get "swift boated" again and don't respond, the repubs will sham the country again.

Of course the Democrats would win today. They will win in 2008. People have seen the kind of damage done when Republicans are in control. Thankfully the american people have seen the light and voted them out. It was about time too.

2 more years is a very long time, and unpopularity won't get Bush to change his "strategy" for Iraq and bring the troops home. In fact, he'll probably be sending 20,000 to 30,000 more, in direct opposition to the vast weight of US public opinion.
