Good suggestions above. If you cannot get other type protection from the company, I have always put the earplugs vertically in my ear and not in the canal. This prevents excessive noise from my hearing. If this won't work, purchase you own, but it's the companies requirement and they should pay for it.

Get ear phones that cover the ear completely. Like people wear for target shooting or airport workers use around airplane engines. They won't go into the canal and will definitely block more sound than the ear plugs.

YOU HAVE 2 OPTIONS, OVER THE EAR HEARING PROTECTION, WITCH I DONT LIKE BECAUSE ITS HARD TO HEAR ANYTHING AT ALL, INCLUDING PEOPLE TALKING TO YOU, OR YOU CAN GET YOUR OWN EARPLUGS CUSTOM FORMED TO YOUR EARS, IT COSTS ABOUT $40 FOR 3 SETS, THEY ARE NICE AND THEY WONT IRRITATE YOUR EAR.

Can the 'headphone' style be worn? Give them a try. And there are many varieties of earplugs such as wax, silicone and foam. Try different types.

See if your employer can provide a different type of hearing protection. An over-the-ear (headset) style would solve the problem.

Get ear muffs. They dampen the noise.

If you are required to wear PPE, wear it. Going deaf is not an option.
